Rock Climbing - Solid Rock

Scouting for Food (begins)

This is an annual service project where we distribute door hanger notices on neighborhood doors, asking residents to leave canned food out the following week for pickup. The next week, scouts visit the same houses to pick up any food left out with the door hanger.

Day Hike - Torrey Pines State Reserve

We will walk one or more loop trails within Torey Pines State Reserve. This park preserves one of the few remaining stands of the Torrey Pine, a rare species of pine tree that occurs only in a few isolated pockets on the west coast of North America.

We hope to have a naturalist or docent along with us during the hike who will be able to point out the unique plant communities and habitats.

This hike is designed to welcome any Webelos who wish to join us for a fun outing!

Snowboarding Day - Big Bear

Trip Includes: Round trip transportation - deluxe bus with TV/VCR, restroom
One day skiing or snowboarding at Bear Mountain Ski Area (Big Bear Resort)
Possibility to earn a PARTIAL toward the Snow Sports Merit Badge (blue card)
Opportunity to work towards the Venturing Sports award
Who Is Invited: ANY YOUTH (Girls, too!): 13 years of age or older, Adult Leaders and Parents
Itinerary: Meet at 4:30 AM: San Diego Mission Valley Target area; to return around 7:30 PM that evening
Meet at 5:00 AM: Bernardo Center Drive near the 15; to return around 7:00 PM that evening
Note: Reservations must be received by Jan. 4 for the Jan. 13th trek, or Jan. 25 for the Feb. 3rd trek.
ALL FIRST TIME SKIERS & SNOWBOARDERS MUST TAKE THE LESSON PLAN PACKAGE. Bring your
own SM-signed Merit Badge card if you want to work on the merit badge. You are responsible for getting it signed
by the merit badge counselor. For purposes of this outing, the group is called B.S.A. CREW 2000.
ADDITIONAL COSTS NOT INCLUDED: FOOD: You may bring your own breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks/drinks,
or BRING MONEY (it’s expensive) to purchase food in the cafeteria. There will be no stops for food while traveling.

Aquatics Fun Day - Day Trip - YAC

We have a great day planned at the YAC, located on Fiesta Island.
Kayaks, sailboats, canoes are all part of the fun.
The scouts will have a little informative session on the importance of PFD’s and
the care of the equipment before venturing out into the small cove near the Aquatic
Center.
We will break for lunch at noon. Each scout will need to have his own sack lunch
and drink.

Day Hike - Mission Trails

This is a great 5 mile nature hike within Mission Trails Regional Park. There are lots of birds, rabbits, and natural flora and fauna. The best feature of this hike is the possibility of a water fall at the Oak Canyon section. Depending on weather conditions there may also be a great view westward toward the city of San Diego from North Fortuna Mountain.

Webelos are invited to attend this event with us. Please call Mr. Tullio ahead of time to let him know to expect you. 858-395-5767.

Mission Trails Regional Park encompasses nearly 5,800 acres of both natural and developed recreational acres. Its rugged hills, valleys and open areas represent a San Diego prior to the landing of Cabrillo in San Diego Bay in 1542.

Started in 1974, Mission Trails Regional Park has become one of the largest urban parks in the United States. Originally used by the Kumeyaay, the park is the site of the Old Mission Dam, built to store water for the Mission San Diego de Alcala.

With over 40 miles of trails, boating on Lake Murray, camping at Kumeyaay Lake, numerous informative hikes, and a state-of-the-art Visitor & Interpretive Center, Mission Trails Regional Park has something to offer everyone.

La Jolla Snorkeling

This snorkel trip will start at the famous La Jolla Cove where we will observe

some of the abundant and colorful sea life within the La Jolla Marine Preserve
and explore one of the most picturesque of the La Jolla Caves, which is open
at both ends. This trip will involve swimming a total distance of 1/3 mile (with fins).
Participants must have previously passed the BSA Swim Test.

Before entering the water we will be sure everyone has their gear fitted properly,
then we will review some basic snorkeling skills and safely rules and determine
dive buddies. We will have kayak escort during the entire event.

Scouts must bring their own properly fitting snorkel gear. A springsuit/wetsuit is
strongly recommended and will be required if the ocean water temperature drops
below 66 degrees. If poor sea conditions develop, this event will be canceled.

BSA Swmmer Test and swiming advancement

This event is for boys who have not yet earned the Swimming merit badge or those who need the second and first class swimming related signoffs. The BSA swimmer test must be passed by any scouts wishing to participate in troop swimming or boating activities. This test is administered at the Plunge in Mission Beach.
