«April 26, 2008 - May 26, 2008»
04 / 26
Start: 7:30 am
Start: Apr 26 2008 - 7:30am
End: Apr 27 2008 - 11:30am

Cibbett’s Flat campground is a hidden gem in San Diego’s East County.  Nestled in a quiet oak forested canyon south of Mt. Laguna, Cibbets flat has a burbling creek, and direct access to the Pacific Crest trail.  Campsites are equipped with water, fire rings, and picnic tables.

This event will be a Patrol based campout.  During the weekend there will be a chance to work on various scout-craft skills, rank advancement and camping and orienteering merit badges.  The Patrols will have time for fun in the mountains, hold some inter-patrol competitions, and enjoy a rousing campfire.

The troop will work on Orienteering rank advancement and Orienteering merit badge including participate in an orienteering event in and around the campground. This will be a beginning orienteering event intended for all scouts to participate.  More experienced orienteers can refresh their skills and new scouts can learn critical skills while having a great time.

This is the time that we work on our annual re-certification of Tot’n Chip (cutting tools safety) and Firem’n Chit (fire safety) for all scouts.  This will also be a great opportunity for scouts needing cooking requirements or other camping skills requirements signed off.  Plan ahead and know what you need.

***Mandatory preparation for Sierra Trek***

This will be an excellent high-altitude adventure and a great work-up for The Yosemite
trek. Backpackers will be treated to spectacular views and varied terrain throughout the San Jacinto
Wilderness. On Friday, we will drive to Palm Springs and take the impressive tram up the mountain.
We’ll spend the night at Round Valley to adjust to the altitude. The next day, we will hike to the top of
San Jacinto (10,800 ft.) and then on to Strawberry Junction, covering about 9 miles. On Sunday, we’ll
hike at least 6 miles and camp in the Willow Creek area. On Monday, we’ll hike the 4 miles back to the
tram and head home. This will be a moderately strenuous route, most of it above 8000 feet. Take only
the minimum in order to keep pack weight down.
