This is a great 5 mile nature hike within Mission Trails Regional Park. There are lots of birds, rabbits, and natural flora and fauna. The best feature of this hike is the possibility of a water fall at the Oak Canyon section. Depending on weather conditions there may also be a great view westward toward the city of San Diego from North Fortuna Mountain.

Webelos are invited to attend this event with us.  Please call Mr. Tullio ahead of time to let him know to expect you.  858-395-5767.

Be sure to download the Outing Description and Permission Slip below.

Here is some info from the Mission Trails Regional Park web site:

Mission Trails Regional Park encompasses nearly 5,800 acres of both natural and developed recreational acres. Its rugged hills, valleys and open areas represent a San Diego prior to the landing of Cabrillo in San Diego Bay in 1542.

Started in 1974, Mission Trails Regional Park has become one of the largest urban parks in the United States. Originally used by the Kumeyaay, the park is the site of the Old Mission Dam, built to store water for the Mission San Diego de Alcala.

With over 40 miles of trails, boating on Lake Murray, camping at Kumeyaay Lake, numerous informative hikes, and a state-of-the-art Visitor & Interpretive Center, Mission Trails Regional Park has something to offer everyone.

It's a fun filled day at the Embarcadero!  Hosted by the Mustang Car Club of San Diego, our annual BBQ fundraiser allows the boys to work and earn money for their scout accounts, which helps pay for summer camp and other scout outings.  The boys will take orders, serve meals and collect money throughout their shift.   Shifts are 6-9, 9-noon, and noon-3.

This is a training program designed for new backpackers so they can learn the basics of backpacking and trail camping.  In addition, it will be a great refresher for intermediate Scouts who have done backpacking training in the past.  These hiking and backpacking elements are primarily intended for those Scouts and adults who wish to tune up their hiking and backpacking skills in a “hands-on” setting.

We will meet at the upper lot of the church on Friday at 5:30 PM.  Eat or pick up dinner ahead of time.  We will spend Friday night in Ranchita’s Heritage Park.  On Saturday we will backpack from the Barrel Springs trailhead of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) toward Warner Springs at a relatively level elevation of 3300-3500 vertical feet for 6 miles where we will set up camp.  Along the hike, we'll stop for instruction on various aspects of hiking, camping, and backpacking.  The backpacking is very pretty, going through open meadows, under live oaks, and along streams.  On Sunday, we will continue to backpack toward Warner Springs, dropping 300-400 vertical feet over 2 miles.  We will load up the cars and drive back to San Diego.

We have a great day planned at the YAC, located on Fiesta Island.
Kayaks, sailboats, canoes are all part of the fun.
The scouts will have a little informative session on the importance of PFD’s and
the care of the equipment before venturing out into the small cove near the Aquatic
Center.
We will break for lunch at noon. Each scout will need to have his own sack lunch
and drink.

This event has been canceled.  The Lake Hodges area sustained heavy damage due to fires and is not usable at this time.  The air quality in the county is still considered unhealthy for this type of activity.  We will plan to reschedule this bike ride in another location at a later date.  Stay tuned for updates.

This 14-mile singletrack trail is perfect for our beginning mountain bike experience. Situated in
a beautiful coastal canyon, the area surrounding Lake Hodges offers a trail system ideal to
introductory mountain-biking, while providing challenges for the more experienced as well.
Varying terrain includes streams, lush river valleys, canopied oak forests, and arid rocky open
areas. Rolling trails with challenging off-shoots provide enjoyment for bicyclists of all abilities.
Scouts will come away with a new perspective of the many coastal canyons which make up
much of the Southern California coastline. A truly memorable experience.
